This article describes how to use the Mac Lab maintained by Assistive Technology in collaboration with Tech Services at Central Office in Room 54.

Computer Lab Room 54

General information:  No food, only covered drinks, log out, turn off computers, clean area.

All computers run from a mac hard drive.  All have Windows and Mac operating Systems.  

All auto start in Windows.

To run in Windows OS

  • Turn on by pressing the ON button on the hard drive (located on the 2nd shelf)

Windows login- (not your SSD Outlook login)

  • Username = SSDStaff

  • Password = Educate2017

  • Use the Epson projector remote to start the projector. Point the remote toward the projector. Press on the Blue button.

Sound

  • To adjust the sound, click on the speaker icon on the lower right of the task bar. Do not use the project remote to adjust the sound.

  • If sound is not working, make sure that the sound output is set to headphones. You should see a headphone icon in the task bar. Hover on it - it should say headphones- cirrus logic.  If the headphone icon does not appear, right click on the speaker icon, open sound settings. Click on choose your output device, choose headphones.

  • To turn off computer, click on lower left windows icon and then click on the power button click on shut-down.

  • XD technology Microphone-Bluetooth microphone. The microphone is connected to the black box and ready to go.

  • Charge the mic, if needed. (see the charger and mic in the blue container on the side of the printer table)

  • The mic is already paired to the receiver (white box on the wall).  See directions to pair as needed. Please put the mic, charger back in the blue container.

To use your windows laptop

  • Plug your laptop into the 15 pin cable, located on the back wall.  If using HDMI adaptor, plug it into the 15 pin cable.

  • Plug your power cord into the strip below the cart.

  • Turn on your computer

  • Use the Epson Remote to turn on the projector. 

  • Tap on Source to scroll through choices to find your computer.

  • For Sound, plug the mono cable into your headphone jack on your laptop.  Plug the other end of the mono cable into the black audio enhancement box on the printer cart. Plug the cable in the input jack on the front of the box.  Use your computer volume settings to adjust.

  • When finished, place the 15 pin cable back on the hook on the wall.

  • Turn off the projector.  Make sure to leave the mono cable on the printer cart.

Before leaving the lab - All Participants

Sign out of the SSD portal

  • On the SSD Portal page, top right side, click on the arrow to sign out.

                     

Sign out of Chrome

  • Make sure everyone logs out of chrome.

  • Click on the people icon on top right of browser toolbar.

  • Click on Manage People.

  • Click on the ellipse (3 dots).

  • Click on Remove this person.

Shutdown computers

  • Leave the monitors on.

Clean the computer keyboards and desk area.

  • Wipes are in the tall cabinet closest to the Presenter computer.  

  • Hand out to participants to wipe down the area.

Pickup and lock down

  • Pick up trash left around the room

  • Turn out light and lock the door

Lab concerns/computer issues

  • Email Kathy Lalk, klalk@ssdmo.org

  • Include the following:  computer #, windows or mac side, explanation of the issue.

To run in MacOS

  • Turn on the computer and simultaneously hold down the option key.

  • Stop holding the option key when the hard drive choices appear.

  • Click on Macintosh HD (not HD2)

  • The Mac OS will now startup

  • Click on SSD staff

  • password= Educate2017

  • Use the Epson projector remote to start the projector. Point the remote toward the projector.  Press on the Blue button.

Sound-  Do not use the project remote to adjust the sound. To adjust the sound, click on the speaker icon on the top right of the screen, and adjust.

  • If sound isn’t working- click on the Apple icon (menu, top left).

  • Click on preferences, Sound. Click on Output. Make sure headphones is chosen.

               

To shutdown the computer.

  • Click on the apple icon on the top left of the computer.

  • Click on Shutdown.

You will need an adaptor to connect to the 15 pin cable (located on the back wall). 

  • Plug the 15 pin cable into your adaptor, 

  • Plug your power cord into the strip below the cart.

  • Turn on your computer

  • Use the Epson Remote. 

  • Tap on Source to scroll through choices to find your computer.

  • Sound- For Sound, plug the mono cable into your headphone jack on your laptop.  Plug the other end of the mono cable into the black audio enhancement box on the printer cart. Plug the cable in the input jack on the front of the box.  Use your computer volume settings to adjust.

  • When finished, place the 15 pin cable back on the hook on the wall.

  • Turn off the projector.  Make sure to leave the mono cable on the printer cart.
