This article describes the steps to setup the Authenticator app method of authentication.

Step-by-step

This method requires a mobile phone or tablet and is available on Android and iOS. Before you can set this up you must download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app. If you have not done so yet, follow the steps in the Download and install the app article from Microsoft.

  1. Open up a browser and go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info .

  2. Login using your SSD username and password.

  3. Click the Add sign-in method button.

  4. Select the Microsoft Authenticator method from the list. Click Add. A prompt will explain your next steps.

  5. Go to your mobile device, if prompted on your mobile device, select Allow notifications. Then click the Skip button.

  6. On your mobile or tablet tap the Add + account button.

  7. Select the Work or school account option from the list.

  8. Select Scan QR code

    1. If this is the first time you're setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app, you might receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). You must select Allow so the authenticator app can access your camera to take a picture of the QR code in the next step. If you don't allow the camera, you can still set up the authenticator app, but you'll need to add the code information manually. For information about how to add the code manually, see Manually add an account to the app.

  9. Return to your computer screen and click Next on the prompt.

  10. Use your device's camera to scan the QR code from the Configure mobile app screen on your computer.

  11. On your mobile device, tap the Approve button.

  12. The account will now display on your mobile or tablet titled Special School District of St. Louis County and display you user name.

  13. Return to the Sign-ins page and you will be promoted with a confirmation screen click Next.

  14. Now you may use this MFA option when logging into your SSD account.
