This article describes how to clear the cache in most common browsers on Windows and Mac.

So why are you asking me to clear my cache?

In order to speed up your internet experience, browsers will "remember" old versions of websites so that they load more quickly. Usually, this is not a problem, but when websites update, remembering that old version can sometimes cause a problem. Clearing cookies and cache tells the browser to start over fresh.

Google Chrome on Windows

  1. Go to the gear in the upper-right corner of Google Chrome.

  2. Click "Settings".

  3. A new tab for Settings will open in Chrome.

  4. Scroll down, click "Advanced".

  5. Click "Clear Browsing Data".

  6. Select the period of time in which you want to clear cache.

  7. Check "Cached images and files". Leave all other options unchecked.

  8. Click "Clear Browsing Data".

  9. Close the Settings tab.


Google Chrome on Mac

  1. Go to the gear in the upper-right corner of Google Chrome.

  2. Click "Settings".

  3. A new tab for Settings will open in Chrome.

  4. Scroll down, click "Advanced".

  5. Click "Clear Browsing Data".

  6. Select the period of time in which you want to clear cache.

  7. Check "Cached images and files". Leave all other options unchecked.

  8. Click "Clear Browsing Data".

  9. Close the Settings tab.


Internet Explorer on Windows

  1. On the right-hand side, click on the gear icon.

  2. Click "Internet Options" under "Browsing history".

  3. Click "Delete...".

  4. In the Delete Browsing History window that appears, uncheck all options except the one labeled Temporary Internet files and website files.

  5. Click "Delete".


Mozilla Firefox on Windows

  1. On the right-hand side, click on the menu icon.

  2. Click "Options".

  3. Click "Privacy".

  4. Click "clear your recent history". Uncheck all options except the one labeled "Cache".

  5. Click "Clear Now".


Mozilla Firefox on Mac

  1. On the right-hand side, click on the menu icon.

  2. Click "Options".

  3. Click "Privacy".

  4. Click "clear your recent history". Uncheck all options except the one labeled "Cache".


Microsoft Edge on Windows

  1. On the right-hand side, click on the ellipse icon.

  2. Click "Settings".

  3. Under "Clear browsing data".

  4. Click "Choose what to clear". Uncheck all options except the one labeled "Cached data and files".

  5. Click "Clear".


Safari on Mac

  1. Click "Safari" in the top left-hand corner.

  2. Click "Preferences", Select the "Privacy" tab.

  3. Click "Remove All Website Data".

  4. Click "Remove Now"
