Reference this article when you want to extend your desktop for use in the classroom or when working with multiple displays.

Instructions

When you are connected to multiple monitors, a projector or an interactive board you can do the following on your Dell laptop to extend your display.

  1. Look at the keyboard and find the Fn key. This should be between your control (Ctrl) and Windows key. Some models may have this key between your control (Ctrl) and Alt key as well.

  2. Press the “Fn” key on the keyboard and look for the F8 key at the top of the keyboard

  3. With the “Fn” key pressed you should press the F8 key and this will change your display settings to the next setting.

    1. Settings may include extended desktop where your laptop screen and the other screen are two separate desktops

    2. The settings may also cause your display to replicate onto the other display making a mirror image of what you see on your laptop.

The other way to accomplish this is through the following steps:

  1. Right click on your desktop in Windows 10

  2. Click the option that says “Display settings”

  3. Scroll down the settings that appear and look for Multiple Displays

  4. Within this submenu you can chose extended desktop or mirroring. You can also

chose
  1. choose the setup of the multiple displays which is useful when you’re working with more than one additional monitor

Info

If you disconnect and reconnect to the other display your options may need to be reset. In most cases if you’re working with the same additional display you will not need to set this up each time you reconnect.
