Zoom Security Practices

Special School District's Best Practices and Frequently Asked Questions that we receive for Zoom. Here are five recommendations for securing your Zoom meeting.

Recommendations

  1. When scheduling a Zoom meeting look for the Meeting ID options and choose "Generate Automatically". This will give your meeting a unique ID that will stop the majority of uninvited guests from entering your meeting.

  2. Another way to protect your meeting is to require a password. Additional Help Information Can Be Found Here

  3. Waiting Rooms is a great tool to help the Host of the meeting make sure that only the invited participants gain entry to the meeting. This option can be setup in your Advanced Settings. You can also toggle other options that may help your meeting get underway easier. For more information on Waiting Rooms you can click here.

In this example I've chosen to mute participants upon entry to the meeting and I've required them to login to Zoom. You can pick and choose to what you need.
  4. After your meeting starts, you can Lock Meeting to stop any new participants from joining. This can be done from your participants view by using the "..." at the bottom right of the panel. This is also the panel where you can kick participants from the meeting, disable their camera or mute the participant during the meeting.  For more information on in meeting security options you can click here.

  5. You should also be comfortable with the Chat Security options available during the meeting. You can Disable Private Chat or prevent participants from having chat functions with each other depending on the needs for your meeting. More information on in meeting Chat Security options can be found here.
