How to backup a student assigned iPad

If you have a device assigned for student use only and would like to backup important data please follow the steps below:

Step-by-step guide

  1. Request a student Apple ID through the Service Desk ticketing system at https://jira.ssdmo.org

    1. Include student name

    2. Contact for the staff member who will be adding the iCloud account to the device (if necessary)

  2. Through a comment in the ticket you will receive the iCloud account login information

    1. An ID: studentname@appleid.ssdmo.org

    2. A temporary password (you must reset the password)

    3. If you forget the password you may request a reset of the Student Apple ID password through the Service Desk ticketing system https://jira.ssdmo.org/

    4. You will be provided a Verification Code for the first sign in

  3. On the iPad connect to a strong Wi-Fi


iOS version 10.2 or earlier

  1. Tap on Settings 

  2. On the left tap on iCloud

  3. On the right use the Student Apple ID information provided by Tech Services

  4. You will be prompted to enter a verification code, enter and Sign In

  5. iCloud will verify the account

  6. After verified tap on Backup 

  7. Tap on Back Up Now


iOS 10.3 or later

  1. Tap on your name or iCloud account name

  2. Tap on iCloud

  3. On the right tap on iCloud Backup

  4. iCloud Backup Toggle needs to be ON

  5. Tap on Back Up Now
