Microsoft Authenticator - What to do when you get a new cell phone

When you setup the Microsoft Authenticator app, it secures your account to a specific, physical device. When you replace that device, you must repeat the process to setup the app.

Getting the Authenticator app functioning on your new phone

  1. After you get your new device, contact Technology Services.

    • Contact 314-989-8686, provide your Employee ID number and request a Temporary Access Pass.

    • We will provide you with a Temporary Access Pass (TAP) that you can use for multi-factor authentication for up to 8 hours. You will need to complete the next steps within that timeframe, or request another TAP.

  2. If your new device was setup using a backup of your old device.

    • Open the Microsoft Authenticator app.

    • If you see an @ssdmo.org account listed, you will tap on the account, tap the gear in the upper-right corner and tap “Remove account”.

  3. If your new device was not setup using a backup of your old device…

    • Download the Microsoft Authenticator app for iOS or Android.

  4. Configure your Microsoft Authenticator app.

    • You will need to use a computer, your new device and the Microsoft My Sign-Ins site for this process.

    • This article starting with “Step 1: Begin Setup on Your Computer” will walk you through the process.

Once the Authenticator app is reconfigured on your phone, you should be back in working order!
