MFA - How to Set Up the Hardware Token
This guide walks you through setting up a hardware token for your SSD account. You’ll use it to confirm your identity when signing in.
🔐 What is a Hardware Token
A hardware token adds a second layer of protection to your SSD account. When you sign in, you’ll be asked to enter a 6-digit one time password (OTP). This confirms that you are the one trying to access your account. Security keys offer a fast, secure way to verify your identity and are especially useful when signing in or after a password change.
This method serves as an alternative to the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Managers and senior leadership are not eligible for this MFA method.
You are responsible for your hardware token and may be charged a fee if it is lost or damaged.
This method of MFA does not support passwordless.
✅ What You Need
A computer with Google Chrome installed
Your SSD login (email address and password)
A hardware token issued by Technology
💻 Step 1: Sign in to the Security Info Portal
On your computer, open Google Chrome.
Go to this website: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
Sign in with your SSD email if prompted.
🔑 Step 2: Add Your Security Key
On the page, click the + Add sign-in method button.
From the list, choose Hardware token.
Enter the serial number, located on the back of the card.
This is the serial number that must be entered.
Enter a name for your new token.
Enter the 6-digit code generated on your hardware token.
To reveal the code, you must press down on the hardware tokens power button. This code will refresh every 30 seconds.
If everything matches, the token will be added to the account.
If you waited too long to enter the verification code, you may see this error. You must click cancel and re-try.
If your hardware token appears in the list, setup is finished.
You’re all set! Your hardware token is now ready to use for sign-in.
