Text disappearing in fields with rules

This article provides an explanation for the disappearance of text when entering it into a form field. It also offers guidance on preventing this issue.

Understanding Form Rules

Phoenix forms are equipped with various rules and dependencies that come into play during data entry. The application incorporates multiple methods to guide users through each form without encountering errors. However, there are certain situations that can lead to frustration for end users.

When Phoenix form fields have rules applied to them, a spinning circle appears in the form header to indicate that a rule is being executed. For instance, in the Front Page - Additional Participants form, entering a name in the Name field activates the corresponding Method of Attendance field.

If you attempt to type or make a selection while a spinning circle is present on screen, your data may disappear or relocate to where your cursor is positioned. To address this issue, the SEIMS department recommends following these steps:

  • Navigate to an Annual/Initial IEP event.

  • Access the Front Page - Additional Participants form.

  • Enter a name in the Name field and then click out of the field.

  • Briefly observe the spinning circle in the header.

  • Wait until the spinning circle disappears, indicating that background rule execution has taken place.

  • Once this occurs, you may proceed with entering a method of attendance.

  • Similar to the Name field, after clicking out of the Method of Attendance field, spinning circles will reappear.

  • Again, wait until they disappear before continuing data entry and ensuring that no spinning circles are visible on screen as information is entered.
